Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Laboratory Manager to lead and oversee laboratory operations within a hospital setting. The ideal candidate must have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, including substantial experience managing a hospital laboratory, with strong expertise in laboratory quality management, diagnostic testing, staff supervision, and regulatory compliance.

We are looking for a strong candidate with proven leadership abilities, sound technical knowledge, and the capacity to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable laboratory services.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily operations of the hospital laboratory, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted service delivery.
• Supervise, train, and manage laboratory staff, including medical laboratory scientists and technicians.
• Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and timely reporting of laboratory test results.
• Manage laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs.
• Implement and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and standard operating protocols (SOPs).
• Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, laboratory standards, biosafety requirements, and infection prevention protocols.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation.
• Manage laboratory reagents, consumables, inventory, and procurement requirements.
• Coordinate with clinicians, consultants, nurses, and other hospital departments to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
• Monitor laboratory performance, investigate discrepancies, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Prepare operational reports, maintain accurate documentation, and support audits and inspections.
• Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, storage, and disposal procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, service quality, and patient safety.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field. A relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in medical laboratory services.
• Proven experience managing or supervising a laboratory within a hospital is mandatory.
• Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, including hematology, clinical biochemistry, microbiology, and other relevant diagnostic disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience in laboratory quality assurance, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
• Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop a multidisciplinary laboratory team.
• Experience managing laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, and operational budgets.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid professional registration or licence, where required by the relevant jurisdiction.
• Ability to work effectively with medical and administrative teams in a hospital environment.

The selected candidate must be willing to relocate to Naoero (Nauru) on an individual basis, without accompanying family members, as this position is offered for a single applicant only.
