Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and competent Operating Theatre Nurse to join our healthcare team in Naoero, Nauru. Candidates must be capable of working independently within their scope of practice, maintaining high standards of patient safety, and collaborating effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating theatre, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before surgical procedures.
- Provide preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative nursing care to surgical patients.
- Assist surgeons and other members of the surgical team during a wide range of surgical procedures.
- Perform scrub nurse and circulating nurse duties as required.
- Maintain strict aseptic techniques and ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Check surgical instruments, equipment, sterile supplies, and emergency equipment before procedures.
- Conduct and document surgical counts of instruments, needles, swabs, and other materials according to established protocols.
- Monitor patient safety throughout the perioperative period and promptly report any concerns.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anaesthetists, recovery staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth surgical workflow.
- Ensure proper handling, sterilization, storage, and disposal of surgical instruments and clinical waste.
- Maintain accurate nursing records, surgical checklists, and other relevant documentation.
- Follow hospital policies, professional standards, and patient confidentiality requirements.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience as an Operating Theatre Nurse.
- Recognized nursing qualification or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Valid nursing licence or professional registration in the home country is acceptable for application and initial assessment.
- Proven experience in an operating theatre setting, including scrub and/or circulating nurse responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of surgical asepsis, sterilization, infection control, and perioperative patient safety.
- Experience handling surgical instruments, theatre equipment, and surgical safety checklists.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within the scope of professional practice.
- Good communication, teamwork, organizational, and clinical documentation skills.
- Willingness to relocate to Naoero (Nauru).
